Tuesday Tales: Writing Grapes

Welcome to Tuesday Tales, a weekly blog featuring diverse authors posting excerpts from their works in progress based on word and picture prompts. I’m pleased you stopped by today. This week’s picture prompt is grapes. My snippet is from Soul Weaver, #7 in the Wytchfae series. It is a paranormal fantasy romance featuring the rebellious half-sister of the three Greek Fates. Enjoy the other authors of Tuesday Tales.

The air sizzled with electricity and the pungent smell of ozone. Resa sucked it in anyway. The close lightning strike had not only knocked her to the floor but knocked out her breath as well. As she flattened her palms and pressed up to a sitting position, an odd sight penetrated the corner of her vision– the unflappable Lachen flailing her arms. Was the sudden Florida storm distressing her sister that much? She tried to call out but couldn’t muster her voice.

Rain now pelted the building. The torrential sheets of water made her think of Teth Falls back home in the Underground dimension. Rain drove in the window she had opened for Andy. Groaning, she pushed to her feet and headed to close it. Andy, the suddenly multicolored frog, still hunched on the sill, being blasted. Rather than revel in it, as he usually did, he began to expand like a pufferfish.

She stretched a hand. “Andy, come here.” Her voice sounded like it had been extracted and stomped on.

He blew up to a good size softball shape and then – poof – was gone. Not sure if she had just imagined the whole strange scene, she jerked the window closed.

Lachen was beside her, pulling her into a chair. A current jolted through them, and her sister jumped, her caftan floating as she released her hold. “Mother of dirt! Your body palpitates with electricity. A healer may be in order.”

Resa tingled from head to toe. “I’ll be fine. I just need to sit for a minute.”

“We’ll see.” Her sister busied herself behind the counter, muddling over bottles. She located a bottle of brandy, a potent Italian Grappa, and poured a half snifter. “You need a stiffener.”

Resa accepted the glass with trembling hands, looking deep into Lachen’s garnet streaked eyes. “Andy disappeared.”

I hope you enjoyed the snippet based on the picture prompt grapes. Thanks for popping in. Return to Tuesday Tales.

Cheers & Happy Reading!
