Themis’ 13 Favorite Monsters

Themis With the family attending Comic Con last weekend, Themis thought it would be a perfect time to add her two cents worth about her favorite monsters. Remember, just as the villain of a book does not think of himself as a villain, neither does a monster consider himself such. Only we can see the monsters.

The mummy as played Boris Karloff, etc., in the classic movies of the 1930’s and 40’s. Love that mummy! I never could understand why the heroine ended up choosing the tweedledeedee hero Percy or Smithley instead of her true love from ancient Egypt.

The huge monster spider in The Tarantula. I saw it when I was three. Yes, three.

The doll in Trilogy of Terror with Karen Black. That razor toothed, knife toting doll keeps coming and coming.

The doll in the episode of Twilight Zone, Talking Tina, with Telly Savales playing a mean stepfather. Another doll that keeps coming and coming. The first time I saw it was at a sleep over at the home of a school friend on Halloween. Her bedroom was painted red, and all night her mom crept up and down the stairs, scaring us with a line from the show, “I’m talking Tina and I’m going to kill you.”

The tiny spacemen in the episode of the Twilight Zone with Agnes Moorehead. These guys also keep coming and coming — with saws and lasers. (I think I see a theme here about monsters that keep coming and coming.)

The weeping angels in Doctor Who, the 11th doctor with Matt Smith. They come CLOSER each time you blink. So don’t blink!

The husband/monster in I Married a Monster from Outer Space. Tom Tryon = cute.

The title character in Dr. Sardonicus. The dude was totally chilling.

Quentin the werewolf in the original television series, Dark Shadows. David Selby played the anguished antihero.

All the vampires in all the vampire movies and shows. Well, that’s an exaggeration– but I do adore most of them! My favorite is Spike, played by James Marsters, in the Buffy television series.

Callisto in Xena. After a tortured childhood, she wants to hurt everyone she bumps into.

The devil in Stephen King’s The Stand. Love that book.

Skada in Wytchfae – Runes. Okay, I’m prejudiced, but that woman makes Callisto seem sweet.
