BREAKFIELD AND BURKEY

Things that inspire us and have nothing to do with printed words:

Inspiration from outside events impact Breakfield and Burkey in very different manners. We have the ability to bring both gender’s point of view into our stories because we view the world around us in a different manner. We believe this is why our audience of raving readers is a mixture of both genders and several age groups. We wanted to provide some examples of thing which have inspired us enough to be placed into one of our stories in some way shape or form.

Sunsets and sunrises are appreciated by us both yet the commentary they invoke can be different. We are both drawn to taking photos of the splendor or the morning or blaze of the evening before the sun winks out. Color variations from the clouds, temperature, geolocation, and time of years really make each of the events unique as well as memorable. Often times in our writing we will take some of those colors to help paint a scene. There is nothing like a riotous sunset to launch our writing into overdrive.

Children’s laughter is another element which each of us picks up on. Breakfield finds it cute and funny when a child laughs with delight or awe. Burkey just cracks up, sometimes unable to contain herself for several minutes. Just so you know, crying, kicking and fussing children inspire each of them to seek shelter from the storm. With both of us having grown children who in our minds were far more well-behaved than most of the ones we see during our extensive business travels. We have been known to box the ears of our characters, the adult ones, who are the cyberthugs or bad actors in our TechnoThriller series.

Breakfield is particularly fond of motorcycles, especially when they have a Harley emblem. He likes long rides all over the countryside exploring winding roads with no speed limit, so he can make up his own. The use of some of his outrageous motorcycle excursions actually inspired a portion of The Enigma Factor. Burkey however is fonder of driving cars fast. Her first new car purchase, like ever, happened to be a luxury car or smart car. It became the inspiration for a very outrageous event in The Enigma Wraith. Sometimes we do not use these inspirations on the spot, while other times they fit the right place at the right time for a gap in a story.

Lastly, travel inspires lots of ideas. Breakfield and Burkey have traveled all over the world for work and pleasure with our respective families. Some of the travel is across Texas with all of the variety it has to offer. Texas sports small towns, a variety of state parks, outstanding wineries, and miles of roads. Our world travels for work have crossed multiple continents with cities many people only read about. Istanbul was recently a target vector for a scene in The Enigma Dragon as a backdrop to some dodgy people. London was also a setting in that story with some details of streets visited, even though that travel was a while ago. Because we individually love to travel memories of the activities and sights will eventually make it into one or more stories. So too will all the people we’ve met along the way. One of Breakfield’s technical counter parts made it into The Enigma Source.  Even though he was cast as working for the bad guys we didn’t have the heart to whack him in the story.

People may be the best inspiration for Breakfield and Burkey, but you’ll need to discover that when you read our series.  Be on the look out for the bank robber and alleged wife murderer that Breakfield actually knew. (yes, those two are actually in jail now, thankfully) As the title of this article states, inspiration comes from the most unlikely places.

Take care-Breakfield and Burkey

      1. Flossie thank you for going to the trouble of hosting our tour. We know it is a lot of work.

    1. Hi, Cathy! Nice to see you on our tour. Thank you for taking the time to read and comment.

  1. A biker author, huh!. Well, why not? I think it must be inspirational to be cruising along in the open air taking it all in. I ride horses and have since my days on our Kansas farm. To me there is nothing more inspiring than riding a horse in the wild. Thanks for hosting, Flossie!

    1. I’m pleased to host this interesting author duo. The cycling does sound inspiring and energizing. Your horseback riding does as well. I haven’t ridden since I was a kid, but all my novels have horses– magical ones. Thanks for stopping by!

      1. Thank you for hosting and interacting, Flossie. We should all do a horseback ride sometime!

    2. Horses and motorcycles do allow one to feel the world as they are passing through. So glad you shared that interesting tidbit. Thank you for following our tour.

  2. I love peeking behind the curtain of an author or a book, so I really enjoyed this post.
Flossie, thank you so much for hosting this stop.

  3. This was a great look into the personalities of these two authors. It’s so interesting to see how each react to the same scenario. I can see where this factor adds depth and dimension to their stories! Great post! Thank you for hosting, Flossie!
