Cocktail Saturday: Mead Toddy

FotorMead0120153834Mead or honey wine drove the Irish High Kings to victory thousands of years ago. Its popularity continued into medieval times, and today the delicious and deceptively potent beverage enjoys a remarkable resurgence.

MEAD TODDY

Ingredients: 1 bottle of Mead
1/2 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger
Cinnamon sticks

Directions: This toddy can be made on the stove top by placing all the ingredients in a pot and heating to a boil. Reduce heat to low. Skim the top. Ladle a cupful of the steaming Mead into a mug, and sip.

To make an individual serving instead, place a cinnamon stick and scant pinch of nutmeg and ginger in a microwavable mug. Fill the mug with Mead. Microwave for 1 minute and enjoy. fotorireland6
