Moving On
A Novella
By Jennifer Simpkins

Blurb:
Love hasn’t come easy to Hadley Jameson. With her daughter away at college, she’s decided to take time for herself and figure out what comes next. A cabin at Wildflower Creek seems like the perfect place to spend some time alone and gather her thoughts. But when she finds a strange man with sad eyes and a sexy grin in her cabin, her vacation plans change.

Being a firefighter, Ethan Crocker has seen some awful scenes play out, but none of his training could prepare him for when he’s called on to save someone close to home. When tragedy strikes, his life spirals out of control. After months of living in a fog, he’s determined to get his life back on track and be happy again. As luck would have it he finds a beautiful naked woman standing on the patio of his cabin rental, giving him the perfect distraction.

Excerpt:
Ethan tried to sleep. He really did. But only being a few feet away from Hadley, with only a couple of walls separating them, he knew sleep wasn’t going to happen upstairs in his room. Every time he thought his body was going to give in to sleep, his mind would wander to his first sight of her—her body wrapped in a tattered towel and nothing else. Long legs that he’d had the privilege of touching. The curve of her neck, slightly pink cheeks and nose, red plump lips, and slender arms would keep any man up at night. So, instead of putting himself through that kind of torture all night he had grabbed a pillow with plans of falling into a deep slumber on the couch. He was lucky enough to fall asleep, but when his dreams turned into him not only seeing a woman, but actually feeling her crawl inch-by-inch up his body, not shy with her hands…and tongue. When he had felt her hands reach inside his shorts, Ethan’s eyes had popped open.

Now he was stretched out in one of the lounge chairs on the patio drinking a beer he’d found in the refrigerator, and dealing with a major hard on. The beer was good. His hard cock not so much, especially when he knew he wasn’t going to be inside of a woman anytime soon.

Ethan should’ve counted himself lucky. Because on the other hand he could’ve been having his other recurring dream. The dream where he could see his sister’s face, eye’s bright and full of life, and laughing one minute, and the next looking up at him with a cold stare. A stare that resembled death.

Nope. Not going there.

If he started down the road of blame, regret and loss he wouldn’t be able to come back from it. Not this time. The first fall from grace had almost killed him and the life and career he’d built for himself. His fire chief had sympathized with his situation, but it didn’t mean he could come to work with alcohol on his breath, or not come in at all because he couldn’t find the strength to crawl out of bed. His team relied on him. His mom had lost her youngest child, but instead of grieving she had to worry about him. He’d even woken up a few mornings to find his oldest sister, April sleeping on his couch. She had a husband and children at home to care for. He had become a burden his family tolerated, but really didn’t need. They needed their once strong son and brother to be able to care for himself again.

Ethan had finally decided he needed to snap out of his deep despair, or lose even more of himself. He chose to snap out of his funk and try his damndest to live life again. That had resulted in him coming to Wildflower Creek where he and Addie had spent a couple of summers in this very cabin, sitting on this very patio. She’d loved the openness and large window in the bedroom Hadley was sleeping in. Addie had called it hers the moment she’d seen it. Which left Ethan in the very same bedroom he was supposed to be in now, but couldn’t because of the hot woman in the next room. Hadley would be the perfect distraction, and maybe the answers to all his needs, but that wasn’t what he had come here for.

Bio: JjenniferSimpkins
Jennifer has always been an avid reader, but it wasn’t until she became a stay-at-home mom did she start to read romance. Her passion of reading romance turned into another passion she had as a child—writing. One late night of writing about sexy heroes and strong-willed heroines turned into two nights, until seven months later she had written her first novel.

She lives in a small, Tennessee town with her supportive husband (whose dream is to be on the cover of one of her books), a beautiful daughter, and two dogs who can’t seem to get along. If she’s not writing you can find her reading, hanging out with her family, or cheering on the New York Yankees.
