One of my favorite television shows as a young child was the iconic drama, Route 66. George Maharis played edgy, street smart Buz Murdock, and Martin Milner the easier going, Yale educated Tod Stiles. The two sped down Route 66 in a corvette and filmed episodes on location. In each segment they became embroiled in the drama of people along the way. One episode featured the threesome Boris Karloff, Peter Lorre, and Lon Chaney, Jr. Among my other favorite guest stars were William Shatner, DeForest Kelley, Miriam Hopkins, Robert Duvall, Susan Oliver, and Michael Rennie, With the recent passing of Martin Milner, who beat out Robert Redford to win the part in 1960, we take a fond look back at Route 66.
I hope you enjoyed our peek back to 1960 and Route 66! Have you seen the show?
Cheers & Happy Reading!
Flossie Benton Rogers, Conjuring the Magic with Paranormal Romance
I’m not familiar with the show but the title brought to my mind Rolling Stones’ song.Thank you for this glimpse into the past!
It was compared to the lifestyle of Jack Kerouac, Carmen, and he even contemplated suing the show at one point.
I haven’t seen the show either, It seems the name sounds familiar.
The show made me want to tour Route 66, Cathy.
I never saw this show, but I’ve heard of it before. It sounds like something I would have enjoyed, especially with the polar-opposite backgrounds of the two leads.
I was saddened to learn of Martin Milner’s passing. I remember him from Adam-12 with Kent McCord. As a kid, I never missed an episode!
Yes, I think you would like it, Mae. I was such a small child I don’t remember specifics of the episodes, but I remember the guys, the car, and the road.
