In honor of my mother’s birthday this week, the highlight is on one of her top favorite Hollywood stars, Johnny Mack Brown. He appeared in over 160 movies, including 127 westerns, and embodied the ultimate ruggedly handsome cowboy. Prior to his stardom in B grade cowboy westerns, Brown appeared in numerous films with stars such as Jean Harlow, John Wayne, and Clark Gable. In 1931 Brown filmed Laughing Sinners, but in one of those sudden Hollywood reversals, all his scenes were cut and redone using Clark Gable. It’s ironic because Clark Gable was another of my mother’s favorite stars. After being cast out of Laughing Sinners, Brown morphed into the western cowboy hero. My mother and countless other cowboy lovers reaped the reward.

For her birthday just before St. Patrick’s Day, and with her favorite color being green, my mother usually treated us to new green outfits when I was growing up. The finery served for spring, St. Paddy’s Day, and Easter. Here we are, Mama and I, so many years ago.mama&megreenFOTOR

Thank you for joining me in my nostalgic vintage trip back to memory lane with my mother, Johnny Mack Brown, and the color green. Best wishes to all.

Cheers & Happy Reading!
