Vintage Friday: 13 Spectacular Bad Boys

They’re sexy, wild, and trouble with a capital T. They’re the bad boys we love to love.

Eddie Wilson – Heartthrob rebel rocker in the movie Eddie and the Cruisers. Can you say yum? Played by Michael Pare’.
Ajax – Hotness from the cult classic movie The Warriors. Played by James Remar.
Dean Winchester – Eldest brother in the tv show Supernatural and quintessential bad boy the girls can’t leave alone. His deepest feelings are for his little brother Sam. Played by Jensen Ackles.
Sam Winchester – Loved him in the humorous episodes when he was Soulless Sam in season 6 of Supernatural. Played by Jared Padelecki.
Guthrum the Dane – Favorite scene in the movie Alfred the Great—Guthrum cuts his arm and his woman’s to joins them together in an eternal blood bond. Played by Michael York.
Johnny Castle – In Dirty Dancing his rocking hips, lip curling smile, and tormented inner self help win the good girl. Played by Patrick Swayze.
Red Diamond – In the book by Dorothy Cork, one of my favorite romances of all time, Red is a 33 year old Australian rancher who falls for young heroine Martyn, but only after much protest and declarations that he doesn’t have a thing for waterbabies.
Philip Caxton – In Johanna Lindsey’s Captive Bride he doubles as a societal rake and a desert chieftain. He teaches Christina Wakefield a lot.
Spike – Yummy irreverent vampire in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. You can’t help but swoon when he whispers, “Slayer” after kissing her. Played by James Marsters.
Angel – Tormented, angst ridden, reluctant vampire and Buffy’s first love. When he loses his soul, he’s truly scary. Played by David Boreanas.
Borias – Warrior and father of Xena’s son in Xena Warrior Princess. An excellent horseman, I think of him a Scythian or of the Fir Bolg before they invaded Ireland. Played by Marton Csokas.
Ares – God of War and always after Xena. His unruly black hair and black leather outfit are memorable. Played by New Zealand actor Kevin Smith, who died tragically in 2002.
Rafe – This is a tough one, but he’s a book character I read as a teenager and have never forgotten. I can’t remember the name of the book, though heaven knows I’ve tried for years. The characters were Pru, Simon, Rafe, and Rowena. It had a star crossed theme. Rowena’s father was a card shark on a luxury liner. Rafe was a bad boy pilot who eventually fell in love with Pru, who was in love with Simon, who was in love with bad girl Rowena of course. At the end, though, all was right with the world. Good girl Pru ended up with Rafe, and Simon with Rowena. If you know the name of this book, PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

What bad boys curl your toes?

  1. I wish I knew the name of the book with Rafe, but that’s one I’ve never read. There were a few bad boys you mentioned that I’m not familiar with but there are others that really struck a chord with me. Michael Pare was great in Eddie and the Cruisers (although I loved him best in Eddie and the Cruisers II and the Philadelphia Experiment). I also can’t remember Ajax from the Warriors but the character I was gone on at the time was the one played by Michael Beck (I can’t remember his name). Strangely, Michael Beck and Michael Pare were paired together in a short-lived TV series not long after that called Houston Knights.

As for bad boys, my favorite comes from a series of fantasy novels (the Coldfire Trilogy) and a character who was the pinnacle of evil (Gerald Tarrant) but who also redeemed himself time and time again . . .although not without maintaining his dark side 🙂

    1. Ooh, yes– The Philadelphia Experiment– good one! I haven’t read Coldfire, and just what I need– another title for my TBR– smile. It sounds too good to pass up though, so thanks for sharing.
