Tuesday Tales: Writing Plaid

Welcome to Tuesday Tales, a weekly blog featuring diverse authors posting excerpts from their works in progress based on word and picture prompts. I’m pleased you stopped by today. This week’s word prompt is plaid. My snippet is from #7 in the Wytchfae series. It is a paranormal fantasy romance featuring the rebellious half-sister of the three Greek Fates. Enjoy the other authors of Tuesday Tales.

Resa palmed ice into a tall glass and poured vodka and peach schnapps, all while keeping tabs on Lachen. She Who Measures seemed intent on securing her pets and her ride. She soothed the leopards with a pinch of ambrosial catnip. Then she parked the chariot out of sight in the recent past. It was one of the many clever short cuts Resa had observed from her sisters over the years. As she added juices to the drink, she wondered at Lachen’s sudden unannounced visit.  She was determined to get at the real story, which might not be an easy task. Her half-sister was not one to come straight out with information. She played close to the chest and preferred to hold her cards until she could smack down a winner. Poking at her might do the trick. It was entertaining and could be illuminating, but could also be dangerous. Nyx’ middle born had the capacity to turn mean as a snapping turtle when irritated or thwarted.

Resa put the finishing touches on the Sex on the Beach. It looked pleasantly fruity, but the taste of last night’s fireballs still danced in her mouth. She inserted a bold k cup and had taken her first sip of steaming coffee when Lachen reappeared. Her eyes widened. Her sister had not only changed into a white and coral caftan but had glamoured herself to appear much younger than usual. An oversized pair of sunglasses shuttered her garnet eyes. “You look marvelous, sis. You’ll fit right in with any upscale beach crowd. What the hell is up?”

Lachen eased onto a barstool and tasted the drink. A soft sigh matched the upturn of her lips. “I am suitably impressed, Resa.” She sipped again.

A long, angry roll of thunder shook the tiki hut, and Lachen twisted on the stool to peer out at the sky.

Resa shrugged. “The afternoon storm is early today.”

Lachen continued to stare intently at the window.

A tingle went up Resa’s spine. “What’s the matter?”

“Your frog. He’s–for god’s sake, he has turned plaid.”

I hope you enjoyed the snippet based on the word prompt plaid. Thanks for popping in. Return to Tuesday Tales.

Cheers & Happy Reading!
