Tuesday Tales 2023-8-22 Confident

Welcome to Tuesday Tales, where writers use word and picture prompts in our stories. My current work in progress is a cozy mystery. This week’s word prompt is confident. Events occur at the August Crow Hotel, Peri’s former childhood home, in Glisten, Georgia. When you finish reading my snippet, make sure to visit all the talented authors of Tuesday Tales.

A confident looking, stylish blonde exited the driver’s seat.  She wore a starchy vintage pencil dress. Her bobbed hair swerved onto an elegant neck. “Sandra Parton,” Robin whispered. “She’s new in town.”

I glanced at the others but didn’t pay too much attention, as my eyes flashed to the dashing woman making a graceful exit from the silver blue Porsche. She was sleek from head to toe in ivory pants and jacket, chunky gold jewelry, and open-toed, brown and gold zebra pumps. Her gleaming dark hair featured a jaunty upturn against her shoulders. She stood for a moment and surveyed the hotel before gliding toward the entrance. I whispered to Robin, “That one looks like she belongs on the cover of Exotic Adventures.”

She eyed me, puzzled. “How is it you don’t know Bon Bon Jarvis? I remember Jack and her father being pals.”

“That must have been after we moved out of town. I know of her, of course. I don’t remember her father.”

“Oh, could be. I get my timelines muddled. Anyway, that’s one of her looks. She has a surprising alter ego. I’ll tell you later.”

Dovie rose, sighing. “This appears to be quite a delegation.”

“They all turned out to get the scoop,” Robin muttered. Then she forcefully tapped her forehead, as if realizing something. Slipping her phone from her back pocket, she tapped open the Notes section. “I might be able to get a scoop myself and do the festival some good while I’m at it.”

The visitors strode up the ramp toward the Tea Thyme door, Naomi leading the way. Vince Wardlow ushered her in and then courteously held the door open for the rest. The chic blonde and the striking Bon Bon Jarvis were either fashionistas or dressed by one, though in totally different styles. Most of the remaining ladies were adorned in what I’d heard referred to as “go to town clothes.” Some wore pants, but the outfits were gussied up with scarves and jewelry.  A lovely array of autumnal flowers cascaded over the handle of the basket hanging from Naomi Upshaw’s arm.

Robin and I formed a receiving line, as Dovie graciously welcomed them.

Naomi Upshaw stepped forward, and the others began crowding in and moving toward the tables to unburden themselves of their purses and establish territory.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoyed the snippet inspired by confident. If you haven’t done so already, check out the other excerpts at Tuesday Tales.

Cheers & Happy Reading!

  1. Very nicely described with the fashions! We used to call those, “Sunday go to meeting clothes” – except the pants. No woman would be going to church in pants back in the day. LOL! Loving meeting these characters and can’t wait to see where they go from here. JIllian
