Tuesday Tales 2022-5-3 Chin

Welcome to Tuesday Tales, where authors write weekly excerpts based on word or picture prompts. I hope our efforts provide some entertaining moments for you. The word prompt this week is chin. I continue with my Highlander Time Travel romance featuring Torsten and Lana. In this scene Lana is still in Florida with her grandmother, who has been injured. When you finish reading my snippet, make sure to visit all the talented authors of Tuesday Tales.

Gran lifted her chin. “I’m not giving up on rock climbing just yet. After all, the We’ve Peaked club has its fun in Aspire Gym, not Grand Teton. The only bad part is…”

“That you’re in the hospital?” Crispin inquired, his tone dry. “Some fun.”

“That’s unfortunate, but Doctor Humes is taking good care of me. The break is not so bad. He just wants me off the leg. It will take time to heal. The bad part is I had so wanted you to see Scotland, Lana.” She reached out and touched her granddaughter’s fingers.

Lana gently enfolded Gran’s hand in both of hers. “We can go when you’re well and have the doctor’s clearance.”

Gran shook her head. “No, that won’t work. As I told Crispin earlier, I won the tickets, remember? This is the last month they are redeemable. Doctor Humes has been called a miracle worker, but my leg cannot mend that quickly.”

Lana heart sank. “Oh, geez. I forgot. Gran, I know how much the trip means to you. You don’t think the contest will make an exception?”

“They’re locked in.” Gran sighed.

Crispin growled, his dark brows knitting into one. “Idiotic rules. Made by simpletons.”

Gran chortled. “Agreed. It’s one on me, all right. Just when life appears level, the Chaos Fairy pops in to show us who’s boss.”

Lana thrust both hands into the air. “No matter. We’ll simply postpone. I’ll save my pennies, and you save yours. Next time this year, we’ll pay our own way.”

Gran looked severe. “Hogwash. There’s only one sensible thing to do. If you want to make me happy, you’ll go without me.”

“I can’t do that, Gran! This was your special trip! You’re the one who won it.”

“Lana, the main reason I was so excited about the trip was for you to see Scotland. I have been there before, remember? Plus, darling, have you forgotten that you contracted with the Mallard Museum to represent them at the Centennial?”

Her mouth fell open. “Oh, my God. I’ll have to renege.”

“Nonsense. I’m not dead or dying, merely laid up for a while. You signed a contract–gave your word–and the museum fronted the per diem. You must go.”

So that’s what Gran had been telling Mr. Yale as she entered the room. Shaking her head in befuddlement, Lana walked to the window and stared out. The parking lot below and the people scurrying were a grayish blur. This was a total mess.

I hope you enjoyed the snippet based on the picture of chin. Thanks for stopping by. Check out the other excerpts at Tuesday Tales.

  1. Oh, very good, Flossie. I wish I could keep reading and find out how things proceed. I have a feelings she’s going to end up in Scotland, but I would love to see how it plays out.

  2. I feel so bad for Gran but how exciting and scary for Lana! I can’t wait to read more! Great job!
