Tuesday Tales: 2021-4-13 Photo Path

Welcome to Tuesday Tales, where you’ll find entertaining excerpts from a group of hard-working writers. I continue here with an adventurous medieval romance featuring a knight. This week’s picture prompt is path. I would love encountering a path like this when walking in the forest, wouldn’t you? After reading the snippet, make sure to visit all the talented authors of Tuesday Tales.

When he discovered the witless guard had permitted her to venture off alone, Nicholas hesitated only long enough to learn the direction. Then he rushed into the woods after her, tracking the subtle impressions of footfall and movement through shrubbery and hedgerow. Images bombarded his mind of Sabina taken by cutthroats that were often found inhabiting such lawless woods. Even more than taken, he feared finding her body broken and ravished. He had seen too much…

He squelched the torture thundering through him and concentrated on following her path. The lifting of night’s veil made it easier. When finally he rounded a grove of ancient sycamore, there she was before him, reaching for her cloak. He face and hair were bathed in the gleaming rays of the awakening sun, and his heart stopped beating for a moment. She was more beautiful than he had ever seen. Her hair cascaded past her shoulders like wanton threads of rubied gold. Her eyes sparkled, and he sensed a touch of mystery in her manner.

He could barely speak, and what he said to her, he knew not. Nor did he fully comprehend her words. He saw yearning in her expression, and heaven knows he burned for her. They were drawn together, a man and woman crashing toward the source. She had touched into his soul. The moment was right. Nothing could have stopped him from kissing her.

Her lips were soft and warm, moving against his. He pulled her closer. Her body trembled against him. Soft arms reached up around his shoulders. Restless fingers kneaded his neck. He deepened the kiss and exulted in her fevered response. He wanted it to never end. He wanted it to lead to more. Somewhere in the back of his mind a note of caution sounded. He batted it away.

I hope you enjoyed the snippet based on the picture prompt path. Thanks for stopping by. Read the other remarkable excerpts at Tuesday Tales.

  1. YAY!! FINALLY! The kiss and I’m hoping for more, just like he is. This is such a beautiful, sensuous scene. So romantic. Sigh. I loved it. And we’ve been waiting for this kiss for weeks. Well done, lady.

  2. Wow! Reading it from his point of view was hot. I am so glad they are together. Great excerpt!
