Mythic Monday: Crystals and Gemstones – Kyanite by Flossie Benton Rogers

KyaniteABlue kyanite makes a lovely necklace. In fact, this is a perfect use for the deep blue stone. Kyanite is especially powerful when worn near the throat. It enhances communicative talents and, in the fashion of a laser, opens blocked channels in all directions to allow the throat chakra to function fully and creatively. It aids in all forms of communication, including helping to clear the pathways for the written word to flow forth. You can see why I was immediately drawn to this piece, as I came upon the artist putting the finishing touches on it. The necklace was created by the owner of Karma Cottage, who also reads tarot cards in Willows New Age Emporium, where Loretta C. Rogers and I recently had a book signing.

Kyanite is also a potent tool in helping to open blocked chakras. Chakras become stuck or choked up when we are shocked or imprinted by powerful negative emotions. These often occur at an early age and are perhaps our greatest challenge. When energy cannot flow freely, our lives take on negative patterns. We may be aware of the pattern and want to change it, but changing it is difficult because the energy is imprinted deep into our cellular structure, into our multiple energy selves. Along with intent and purpose, and grace—I’ve learned to always be open to the power of grace—kyanite can assist with clearing out the blockages. As with all of life and nature’s bounty, it is best to approach the process with gratitude and wonder. As Aeschylus, the father of Greek Tragedy said in Agamemnon: “Even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God.”

An interesting characteristic of kyanite is that it is self-clearing. We do not have to worry about overloading it. We do not have to cleanse it in salt or under a full moon, although charging it under a full moon can certainly add to its power when directed toward a particular purpose.

The ancient Greeks named kyanite after its vibrant blue color. Kyanite exhibits calming tendencies and can help a person become more centered and achieve a deeper meditative state. What better representative stone for this month of Sagittarius, who loves standing on the ground and shooting for the stars?

  1. I don’t have a piece of this stone, but I think I might try to get some for my collection. Just a thought, if you do cleanse with salt, be careful as it can spoil some stones. Thanks for sharing about this one, Flossie.
