I’ve Been Tagged– Look

Red rover red rover, come on over! I’ve been tagged by my friend, author Jillian Chantal, to play a game. I met Jillian at the Silken Sands writing conference in Pensacola and found her energy and get it done attitude highly impressive. When she says tag, I know I better step up because this woman is relentless and does not take no for an answer.

Several writers are playing the game. The point is to find the word look in my WIP and post the surrounding text. Then I must tag more writers, a task which I’ll explore later today.

This text is from a novella I’m working on in the Wytchfae series. The stars are a Succubus named Layla and a Guardian of the Deep, Samael. Their love affair is burning hot, and then Samael’s memories go haywire:

He halted the stallion within a few feet of where Layla sprawled in the shallow water. She flinched at the look he tossed her from beneath his wide brimmed hat. It wasn’t the heated gaze he usually gave her, the one that melted her insides and made it hard to breathe. No, this was the distant stare of a stranger. A cold stranger with her lover’s face.

Layla blinked. Samael sat astride the horse. It was him, but he appeared so different. For one thing, his long, flowing hair now stopped at his chin. And the stare he gave her was anything but the hot gaze she usually got from Samael. In fact, it wasn’t even warm. He surveyed her quite frostily.

“What did you call me?”

“S-Samael.”

“Name’s Sam,” he said, his voice clipped. His regard flicked toward Bane. “Who are you and why the hell are you on my property?”

  1. WOW! I love the excerpt. I’m already 1/2 in love with Sam. He’s my kind of man.

And I’m really a pussycat. The relentlessness is a facade. LOL! Thanks for being the first to play along with me.
