It is time for Tuesday Tales, where you’ll find entertaining excerpts from a group of hard-working writers. I continue here with an adventurous medieval romance featuring a knight. This week’s word prompt is hurry. After reading the snippet, make sure to visit all the talented authors of Tuesday Tales.
She moaned into his mouth and crumpled against him.
His arms tightened, holding her up. The note of caution in the back of his mind blared into a hearty warning. The woman was betrothed. Though she said not, her intended alleged otherwise. He fought for sanity. “Sabina, dearest.” Clasping her upper arms with strong hands and inserting space between them, he peppered kisses to her cheeks. “Forgive me. ‘Tis my doing. You tempt my very soul.”
She looked up with dazed eyes. “I—I wasn’t expecting that.”
Mayhap they should settle down a mite before rejoining the others. He put an arm around her and guided here to the low stone wall of the well. “To be kissed first thing of a morn?”
“Nay.” She indicated the crystal waters behind them. “I made offering to the spirit of this place and then, of a sudden, there you were. You took me by surprise.”
He cocked his head. “Not to mention took your breath. I am the answer to no prayer, madam.”
Blushing, she cast her eyes downward and then narrowed them at him. Fire flashed from their depths. Anger? Courage? He didn’t know for sure, but he liked it. Sabina was a spirited woman. It excited him and made him glad for her at the same time.
“Nor did I cast your name in prayer, sire. I desired not your presence and assuredly not an unsolicited kiss. Yes, you took my breath–but due to surprise. I had been absorbed in giving blessing for this ancient spring and secluded bower.” She gestured. “‘Tis special. Even the air is warmer than back at camp. And not merely because of the sun. We have had several sunny but icy mornings on the trail thus far. Can you not feel the difference here?”
He raised a hand midair and eyed her quizzically. “Aye. Mayhap there is something to the old stories of sacred wells guarded by fae spirits.”
She nodded. “I think so.”
A cloud darted over the sun. A sudden breeze set the evergreens to rustling. Of one mind, both he and Sabina shot to their feet, as if a warning had been issued. Within moments, shouting and sounds of struggle could be heard. “Come!” He grabbed her hand and sped toward camp. “We must hurry.”
I hope you enjoyed the snippet based on the word prompt hurry. Thanks for stopping by. Read the other remarkable excerpts at Tuesday Tales.

Exquisite! And what a place to end the scene!!!
I’m glad you liked it, Mae. Thanks!
Lovely scene and that’s a great cliffhanger!
I love a cliffhanger. Thanks, Susanne.
Don’t tell me she didn’t like it! Some nerve, chalking off her response to surprise. She’d be a fool not to like this guy. I’m already half in love with him myself!! Great scene. She’s trying to preserve her dignity. She should just give it up and go for this man. He’s a keeper. And now you have me on the edge of my seat until next week. Well done!
Haha, thanks, Jean! I’m glad you are half in love with Nicholas.
Oooo what a cliffie! I love it.
Thank you, Vicki!
Noooooooo…..you can’t end there! You minx, you, leaving us hanging right there. Great snippet!
Heh heh– you bet! Thanks, Trisha.
Love it, especially the part that he’s not the answer to anyone’s prayer. I have a feeling he just might be 🙂 Jillian
Whew! Love the heat at the beginning. I also love how they talk about the kiss and the sudden distraction. Very intrigued! Great job!
Oooh, thanks for the comment, Tricia.
