I’m excited today to have Joyce Humphrey Cares here, a Sweet Cravings author who is also a fellow member of Sunshine State Romance Authors.
Blurb:
Innkeeper, Zoe Darden becomes involved in the investigation of the murder of her friend, a monk, at the priory in rural Preston, Vermont and the mysterious events that threaten to destroy her inn, The Gables. She stumbles on the unsolved murder of a British industrialist in the Bahamas in 1943 and the dubious ownership of his art and antiques that disappeared when he died and have been traced to the Preston area. Michael Cavanaugh leaves the stress of being a New York City detective and becomes Chief of Police in Preston. The death of the monk drags him back into the world of murder and intrigue. He suspects Zoe may be involved in the murder and is thrilled when he discovers his suspicions are unfounded. As events begin to spiral out of control, Zoe and Michael work together to chase every shadow and lead in pursuit of the killer.
Blurb:
The woman in the long, black cape appeared at night the way visions usually do. Alexandra Pirrot, FBI agent, traveled to a historical chateau in the French countryside. She is chosen by the chateau’s resident ghost to return to the gruesome time of 1789—the French Revolution—when blood ran down the streets of Paris. She is determined to piece together the long-held secrets and mystery surrounding her family. To help link the past and the present, Alexandra joined forces with French attorney, Jean Paul Morneau, who has been hired to defend the present day chateau owner on murder charges. Two sets of footprints are led by the ghost on a romantic journey, into a time of treachery and betrayal, to rescue one of the aristocracy from Madam Guillotine and to help another who is no longer alive, but has not crossed over, find peace.
1. What inspired you to write in your genre/s?
I’m AN AVID READER of the romance genre and a frequent traveler and lover of history so decided to combine history and contemporary romance and the places I have traveled to.
2. What is the hardest part about writing?
Making sure that I tie everything together and answer all the questions I raise.
3. Tell us about your writing schedule and habits. (What drink do you always have by you?)
I try to write or do research for 4-5 hours a day. I don’t have a drink at my side on my desk so I have to get up and walk to the kitchen. I usually drink water or tea.
4. Tell us what you love most about your latest book.
I like the way Zoe, my female character, discovers a new life.
5. If you could time travel, when and where would you go?
I love Ireland and the Irish people. I would travel back into history in the 1940’s at Christmas and New Year.
6. If you could be a mythological or fantasy being, who or what would you be?
I would be part of the resistance in France during WW II.
7. Rose, sunflower, violet, or lily?
I would be a deep red colored lily-my favorite flower.
8. If you knew the apocalypse was coming, what authors/books would you take with you to your bug out location?
I would take any books by Nora Roberts and any historical fiction books I could.
9. What stories do you have planned for the future?
My plans for future books are a time travel/romantic suspense that will take place in Ireland and a six book series. I am just finishing a book that takes place in Italy. It’s a romantic suspense and time travel.

Great interview, Joyce. We share a common interest–Ireland. I’d love to live there for about a year just to do research, and enjoy the countryside. Happy writing with your planned series.
