1.They are superb stress busters. Basset fur is soft and soothing to the touch, not coarse or wiry. As opposed to sinewy, they have a chunky, fluffy body. On this medium size dog, there is plenty of room to make long sweeping strokes, calming for both dog and human. Feeling cranky or blue? Pet a Basset.
2.They make good couch potatoes and have an amazing ability to fit in any space. When you want to sprawl in your two-seater recliner to write, read, or watch tv, a Basset is your perfect partner. They curl with ease into the other side, with one ear invariably draped over the chair arm. If you are not in the chair, the Basset body will elongate to fill up both seats. This is a little like a taffy effect, only furry. When you are tired out from too much tv, just recline in the chair and mimic your Basset. Excellent nap mate and comfy pillow for your weary head.
3.They make handy diet buddies. Bassets love meat and cheese, which is perfect if you are on a low carb eating plan. Mix in a few green beans from time to time and you can serve the same meal to both yourself and your Basset. Saves time. Keep in mind, however, that a Basset does not appreciate broccoli or mushrooms. If you are set on adding these highfalutin accoutrements to your meal, don’t try to fool your Basset Hound by sprinkling them with cheese. She will lick off the cheese and ignore the rest of your culinary oddities. In fact, don’t try to fool your Basset about anything whatsoever. With her uncanny ability to read your every thought, it’s a useless endeavor. This is particularly applicable to bath time.
Love the blog! Can see Daisy draped all over. Oscar Meyer, the black angora, does the same thing but he won’t let me up. Tell us more – want to read more!
Lyn, Daisy was especially “lovey” today. I had the doors open, and the air got a little chillier than I anticipated. While I’m working, I usually sit in a two-seater recliner with my laptop and Daisy sits beside me. When I returned from getting a hot tea refill, she had expanded about three inches onto my side!
