Recently childhood pals Meg, Larry, Vi, and I went to see my favorite band of the 1960s, Paul Revere and the Raiders. Those guys still wear revolutionary style costumes and rock harder than ever! Paul’s keyboard is in the shape of the front of a mustang.
Back in the day my favorite of the group was sexy lead singer Mark Lindsay, who stayed with the band until the mid 1970s. He has been on his own for many years, and the Raiders kept on going all this time with various lead singers. The current lead singer is Darren Dowler from Daytona Beach, Florida. He has an uncanny ability to imitate iconic warblers such as Tom Jones. Strange but true– to me he strongly favors Paul Revere– note the blonde curly hair in the pic to the left. However, Paul’s son is also in the band and sports long black hair. See the pic below. Needless to say, this blast to the past where the action is was outasite!
Flossie, I am so jealous! I love all the bands from the sixties, including Paul Revere and the Raiders. I’m actually a child of the 70s, but have two older sisters who were always playing sixties music in the day. Always loved the outfits the Raiders wore too! One of my fave channels on Sirius Radio is the 60s on 6! What fun you and your friends must have had!
What a hoot it was! I’m happy for Paul that he’s still doing what he loves. As a teen I remember writing a story about how the Raiders got started. The previous weekend another pal and I had gone to see the Irish Rovers– quite different from the Raiders but oh so engaging. I guess it was my musical month lol. One of their hits, The Unicorn, came out when I was in tenth grade. That summer I was working for my mom in her restaurant, and it always planed on the juke box. Mae, do you remember The Royal Guardsmen who sang the Snoopy songs?
I love the Royal Guardsmen! I have both renditions of the Snoopy songs on mp3 ( the Christmas rendition and the original version). And The Unicorn by the Irish Rovers is one of my favorite songs! I still walk around singing that in my head. Even had an Irish a Rovers Cd until I gave it to someone just a few months ago. Sounds like we enjoy a lot of the same music Flossie! Thanks for making me think of all this great music!
