It’s beach time, with summer only a hop and skip away. Do you recall the first time you went to the beach? My first trip was to Daytona Beach as a child, and I loved it. The sea and sky like a giant dome above. The feel of ocean spray. Toes in the sand. Towels held down by a picnic basket. Wind raging with the force it has at the seashore. Family and people in colorful bathing suits, having fun. Frothy waves around my knees. What did you experience during your first trip to the beach?
It’s hard to believe that Brian Hyland was only 16 years old when he recorded this playful song.,

Though I live on the banks of the second largest river in Europe, the Danube, the sea has always had a kind of fascination for me. Like you, I first saw it as a child. The same experience. Toes curling in the soft sand, waves that aren’t black though the sea it’s called Black Sea. The shells and the wind. I was there with my maternal grandfather who was sent on business in Constantza, the biggest seaport in Romania. He took me with him, God rest his soul! Big sigh! It was marvelous.
Thank you for the post with its memory stirring image!
I would love to see the Danube, Carmen. It would definitely be fascinating to me. Thank you for sharing your lovely memory of your grandfather taking you to the beach.
My earliest memory of the beach is going with my family to Atlantic City where we rented a huge white house. I’m a beach girl, with the Maryland and Delaware coasts like a second home to me. For years I spent almost every summer weekend there (hubby’s family owned a spot on the bay and we had a pontoon boat). I still make it a point to get there 1-2 times a year. I would love to move there someday 🙂
You have a perfect location for the beach, Mae. I also would love a beach cottage.
I loved this song and had a yellow polka dot two piece LOL. We only had a lake nearby and it was one summer with my first boyfriend. Our first kiss too. fun memory
Ahh, that’s such a sweet memory, Cathy. And you had the suit!
