Tuesday Tales: Writing Hardy

Welcome to Tuesday Tales, a weekly blog featuring diverse authors posting excerpts from their works in progress based on word and picture prompts. I’m pleased you stopped by today. This week’s word prompt is hardy. My snippet is from #7 in the Wytchfae series. It is a paranormal fantasy romance featuring the rebellious half-sister of the three Greek Fates. Enjoy the other authors of Tuesday Tales.

Resa kept her face deadpan, as she studied her powerful half-sister. “A Sex on the Beach. You came all this way for a drink. How did you even hear about it?

A bejeweled finger indicated the hastily chalked promo sign. “Clear as day, and the name strikes my fancy.”

Not wanting to give in, she pushed a little more. “Why didn’t you just snap your fingers and conjure it?”

One chiseled brow lifted, emphasizing the garnet-colored streaks in her eyes. “Food and drink are always better when someone prepares them for you. It’s part of the ancient law of hospitality. You’d know that if you hadn’t skipped out on your studies so often.”

Resa held back a retort. It wouldn’t do to get too smart ass with someone who could turn her into a slimy toad. Her heart tattooed at the unconscious slur, and her repentant gaze flitted to the small green creature hunched nearby. No offense, Andy.

Frowning, Lachen looked around. “Who is Andy?”

Damn! Sis could read her mind.

Lachen sighed as if in exasperation. “I cannot read your mind, you silly twit. At least not all the time, just sometimes, and it’s because you don’t concentrate on my NOT reading it. Now who in Hades and where in Hades is Andy?”

Resa concentrated. “Why don’t you read my mind and find out?”

Lachen’s lips pursed. “Good blocking. That’s more like it. However…” Eyes shot garnet sparks.

Resa held up both palms. “Okay! I give.” She nodded toward the frog on the window sill. “Andy Hardy is my familiar.”

Andy emitted a croaking noise that sounded more like a belch.

If her sister had been more human, Resa swore she would have rolled her eyes up until they crossed. “How…typical of you.”

Grinning inside, she stood up, causing Lachen to lift her gaze. “It will be my pleasure to make you a drink. After all, that’s my specialty. Why don’t you park this gizmo thirty seconds in the past, where it will stay invisible, and join me at the bar?”

“You’re a hardy soul, aren’t you, little sis? Very well.” She Who Measures rose grandly from her tufted cushion.

I hope you enjoyed the snippet based on the word prompt hardy. Thanks for popping in. Return to Tuesday Tales.

Cheers & Happy Reading!
