Welcome to Tuesday Tales, a weekly blog featuring diverse authors posting excerpts from their works in progress based on word and picture prompts. I’m pleased you stopped by today. This week’s word prompt is fall. My snippet is from #7 in the Wytchfae series. It is a paranormal fantasy romance featuring the rebellious half-sister of the three Greek Fates. Enjoy the other authors of Tuesday Tales.
Was she imagining it or did her sister flinch at the mention of Andy? That flipped her from rattled to mad in two seconds flat. She touched her lips to the brandy and swallowed. It slid down bright and burning, She set down the glass. “What are you not telling me, Lachen?”
Feigned indignation flickered across the regal face. She tilted her head and sniffed. “Pardon?”
“You know something about Andy. Or about his disappearance. Was he doing a job for you? Did you send him here?”
“Your imagination was always fertile, little sister.”
“You want me to fall in line as I always do. Not this time.” She stood up, clenching her hands. “You either tell me the truth or get out.” The last part was loud. Her mad was coming through just fine.
Lachen straightened to her full intimidating height, about eight inches over that of Resa. Her face showed no overt emotion. Her eyes, however, thrummed with the strain of holding power at bay. They flashed garnet as if a herd of wild broncos lashed to get loose.
Resa swallowed down a hysterical chuckle. What does she want to do? Make me go poof as well?
Pounding came from the front. Resa turned to see that the end of the storm had brought the beach crowd. Her gaze snapping to Lachen in a silent warning plea, she opened the door, greeting Sunny, Pearl, Tommy, and the rest.
Tommy removed a soaked cap from his shoulder-length black curls. “What’s the idea of a locked door? It’s past time for refreshments.”
“Especially after that thunderstorm. Good lord, they come earlier every day. Can we get mai tais all around, Resa?” Sunny edged onto a stool, looking with interest at Lachen.
Resa glanced nervously at her sister. She had redonned the shades and stood like an enigmatic 1930s movie star awaiting her fans.
I hope you enjoyed the snippet based on the word prompt fall. Thanks for popping in. Return to Tuesday Tales.
