Tuesday Tales: Picture Prompt 5-19-2015

The heat emanating from his body licked at her skin like a thousand flaming tongues. Even if she hadn’t seen the granite build, sensed the lightning reflexes, honed in battles whose names he had probably long forgotten. If she hadn’t noticed the tortured expression lining his hazel eyes, of a man who had seen too much, and handled more. If she hadn’t heard in the music of his blood the after tones of countless other warriors. It pounded at her with its jungle beat, daring her to touch the damaged man encasing so much chaos. Even if she had not seen and felt all that, she still would have known him.

There was no other man authorized to display the shining blue green scales of the Colchian dragon, now disguised as an upper arm tattoo.

The god of war had just entered her little seaside tiki hut and plopped his leather clad rump onto a barstool.

She frowned. Was he sauced? She sauntered over and placed a menu in front of him.

He blinked at the print several times as if trying to focus, and then pushed it to one side. “Bring me a double jack and a plate of bacon and eggs.”

“The jack is no problem, but we only serve chips and nuts.”

“No bacon and eggs?”

She shook her head. “Afraid not. I’ll be right back with your drink.” She turned to go. 

He touched her arm with a forefinger, and a tingle of electricity rippled over her skin. “Is there something else?”

“Forget the whiskey. A man’s soul can be dark as pitch. I’ll have coffee.” His mouth crinkled into a slight smile. “You have coffee here?”

  1. I am always in awe of your talent and the creative use of the word pitch. I remember pitch. 🙂 In the country, we were big fans of tar & pitch or at least users.
