Tuesday Tales is a weekly blog featuring diverse authors who post excerpts from their WIPs based on word and picture prompts. Today we have an elegant picture as our inspiration. The snippet is from a holiday vintage romance set in the 1950’s after the Korean War. For now it is called Mistletoe Magic. Please visit the other fabulous authors at Tuesday Tales.
A simple kiss under the mistletoe wouldn’t be nearly enough. He ached to lick the sheen of ruby red wine lingering on her lips. Then he would put his mouth on hers and feast on the womanly taste of her. Get to know his wife again. Ease some of the torment of these past two years. Feeling more and more like a starving man, he wanted to pounce on her and gobble her up.
Probably not the best idea in this swanky joint where they were dining.
He looked down at his plate. When had he eaten most of his steak?
He shoved his hands in his pockets to keep from reaching for her across the table. The last thing he wanted was to scare her. She had acted a bit shy since he returned, as if she were waiting on him to set the tone of their re-acquaintance.
It pained him now to see a tiny frown marring her brow. “Is your food okay, Brenna?”
As if startled, she grabbed her fork and speared a shrimp. “Delicious.”
His eyes were riveted on the small bite that disappeared between her lips. She dabbed the red napkin at the corners of her mouth, offering him the hint of a smile. Candlelight deepened her dimples.
Clearing his throat, he pinched the stem between two fingers and downed the rest of the burgundy.
As he set down the glass, she slid her hand over his. The brush of her fingers was cloud soft on his knuckles. The warmth of her voice flowed over him. “Darling, with Gwennie at the sleepover, I thought maybe…instead of driving back home tonight, do-do you want to get a room down here?”
