Tuesday Tales is a weekly blog featuring diverse authors who post excerpts from their WIPs based on word and picture prompts. Today’s prompt is the picture above. The resulting snippet features supporting characters from the 5th Wytchfae book. The story is a prequel to the appearance of these characters in Lord of Fire. Ten pounds of hefty cat clung to Lucien’s chest, and he had no choice but to buffer her in his arms while the maniacal doorman spun around like a demented windmill.
“Dad blast that good for nothing stray mulecat! I ain’t never seen the like. What do you mean she’s your’n, Mister Silver? You’re pulling my leg. That alleycat was sneaking around this hotel long before you set foot here.”
The cat burrowed closer to Lucien, making little bumping motions beneath his chin with the top of her head, as if seeking shelter from the strident voice out for total feline annihilation. Pfft! He spoke through wisps of soft white fur attached to a warm body stiff and trembling from her frenetic encounter. “Ted, does this really look like a stray cat to you?”
The doorman eyed him from beneath furrowed brows, his thin lips curling up on one side. “What do you mean? There ain’t no collar, and it’s been prowling around here on the lookout for something good to eat.”
Lucien gritted his teeth, envisioning for a moment punching Ted’s lights out, just for the hell of it. “Perhaps the collar broke away, Ted. That’s how they’re made now, you know, to protect the animal in case it gets caught on something. No, Ted, this is not a stray by any means.”
Now the doorman’s pale squinty eyes widened. He couldn’t have looked more puzzled if Lucien had handed him an algebraic equation to solve. “How do you know?”
“Look at this snowy white fur, these periwinkle blue eyes. She smells sweet too. Want a sniff?”
Ted stepped back smartly, shaking his head.
“This is not a stray, Ted. This cat is obviously a high class package. Yessir, she’s champagne and caviar all the way.”

Flossie Benton Rogers, Conjuring the Magic with Paranormal Fantasy Romance
awesome excerpt!
Thank you, Cathy!
Loved the accurate description of the cat’s movements. Our Emma does something similar when she thinks my husband scolds her. Only that she is a dog.
Carmen, what kind of dog is Emma?
Not sure. We saved her from the hoodlums beating her in the street. Looks like a mongrel – a Shepherd dog with a wolfhound, I think.
I’m so glad you saved her. How wonderful for her.
Interesting snippet, Flossie. Look forward to reading more to find out all about that cat.
Thank you, Iris.
Love the description of the cat as champagne and caviar! Great interaction between these two. White cats with blue eyes are deaf. Did you know that? But beautiful.
No, I had no idea about that, Jean. I wonder if that will be true in the fae world.
This pulled me right into the story, Flossie. Loved the imagery you’ve painted. Beautiful scene.
Thank you, Carolyn!
Oh, oh! Could you please given them their own book? I loved them in LORD OF FIRE!
Thank you for that, Mae! They do want their story told, especially Angel.
What a great excerpt!
Thanks, Vicki!
Great writing – as usual. I loved the: he had no choice but to buffer her in his arms while the maniacal doorman spun around like a demented windmill.
Creative and unusual way to use the prompt – I loved it.
I appreciate your comments. Thank you, Trisha!
Loved this excerpt. I am a cat lover. Mae Clair is right. Give them their own book!
Glad to me another cat lover! Thanks for stopping by, Karen.
Love the cat description 🙂
Thanks, Morgan!
