Welcome to Tuesday Tales, powered by a small group of authors, where word prompts inspire passages in the books we’re writing. I’m working on a cozy mystery, Pumpkin Patch Murder. Our word of the day is water. When you finish the passage, make sure to visit all the talented authors of Tuesday Tales.
“What do you think?” Robin asked. “Is Skip telling the truth?”
“He seems to be,” I replied, momentarily forgetting the van behind us to rehash my impressions and get hers. “But you know him fairly well, right? Did his demeanor today match his usual behavior?”
“He tends to be laid back and jovial. A kidder’s kidder. I’ve always thought it was a bit of a mask.” She chuckled uneasily. “We all wear them, but I’ve never seen him such a mess as today. Remember I wasn’t in town when he and Vonna broke up before. I only heard the gossip about his taking it so hard. It’s reasonable he would be in a dire emotional state after losing the love of his life. Especially since she died in such a violent way.”
“He’d also be in a dire state if he killed her and is putting up a big pretense about it.”
“So you think he’s covering up for his own actions?”
“I don’t know what to think. My head is in a swirl. My heart went out to him when I was sitting there listening. He seemed sincere. Then you and I get in the car and start to talk about it, and all I can do is wonder if we’re being played. You mentioned wearing a mask, and I’d love to have a deep conversation about that later, girlie,” I grinned at her and then sighed, my attention returning to the matter at hand. “Until we have facts to support or refute what Skip is saying, I think we must keep an open mind.”
Her mood shifted, and she huffed. “Facts! How are we ever going to determine who’s telling the truth and who’s selling us a bag of magic beans? I was banking on Kitty to be the killer, and she had to come up with an alibi.”
“That’s water under the bridge,” I reminded her.
“I know it is. I’m just venting.”
“Is there someone who could provide some insight? Without us showing our hand, of course. Maybe someone from the committee meeting who would have noticed the odd interactions that day.”
“Bon Bon has a good head on her shoulders. I don’t know how well she knows Skip.”
“She went out of town, remember?”
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoyed the piece inspired by the word water. If you haven’t done so already, check out the other excerpts at Tuesday Tales.

Hmmm! Bon Bon out of town is interesting. Great scene.
So Skip could be back in play? What they say is definitely true. And BonBon’s out of town? That’s convenient. Great job! I can’t wait to read more!
A kidders kidder. Great line.
