It’s time for Tuesday Tales, March 14, 2023, where authors make use of word and picture prompts in their works in progress. I am working on a cozy mystery. Today’s picture prompt is cheese and nuts. When you finish reading my snippet, make sure to visit all the talented authors of Tuesday Tales.
“Oh.” She stared. “I thought you were working for some company that gave local tours.
“I was—Sightsee History, but I came up with an idea for a business of my own with a slightly different slant—Spooky Trekking.”
The puzzled look deepened.
I plowed on. “The idea is to visit mysterious old places and delve into their history. If a place is thought to be haunted, that makes it all the more interesting.”
“It’s not like one of those cheesy ghost hunting shows, is it? Those people are totally nuts.”
“No.” I hesitated, and then continued. “But I do hope to video some of the tours at some point.”
Her head slanted. “Have you ever seen anything unusual?”
She would freak out she knew about Rose. “There are unexplained happenings, but I had barely started the business when I got the call about Jack. I hadn’t even submitted the corporation paperwork. If I do manage to get it going here in Glisten, though, you should come sometime.”
She flapped a dismissive hand. “Not my cup of tea. Don’t misunderstand, history is in my blood. It had better be, since I’m the Heritage Society treasurer, but scary—no. Besides, I’ll wager the hotel and tea shop will keep you too busy for any side venture.”
“You may be right. Speaking of which, I’d better get back to it.” I had moved toward the door when a crash sounded from the back room. I turned. “What on earth?”
Her cheeks were pink. “Oh, just the wind blowing the door shut. I left it cracked for the neighborhood tabby. Keep me posted on how the renovations are coming, will you? Poor Jack left a lot undone. Oodles of work for you.”
I found myself biting my tongue.
I hope you enjoyed the snippet inspired by the picture of cheese and nuts. Thanks for stopping by. If you haven’t done so already, check out the other excerpts at Tuesday Tales.
Cheers & Happy Reading!

Great snippet.
Thank you!
I don’t think that was just the door blowing shut. And I think she knows more than she’s saying. I’m feeling an undercurrent. Well done. I’m loving this!
I’m glad you’re feeling the undercurrent. Thanks, Jean!
