It’s Thanksgiving time! I hope you and your family enjoy a multitude of blessings. Welcome to Tuesday Tales, where authors write weekly excerpts incorporating word and picture prompts. In this scene from Silver’s Angel, our hero and heroine reminisce about home and Thanksgiving. When you finish reading my snippet, make sure to visit all the talented authors of Tuesday Tales.
Angel and Lucien waved and watched the trio of skiffs zip away with several of his band members and crew and most of the other models. The white froth following along behind the boats echoed the churning of her stomach. Trying not to sigh, she leaned her sweatered arms on the railing and glanced at him from the corner of her eye before studying the water again. “You leave at ten in the morning, you said?”
He nodded. “Cody, Stalk, and me. We have a car rental waiting, and I’ll drop them off along the way before heading on to Chalmette. I’m glad we have one more night together. I heard you on the phone yesterday and was afraid you’d be leaving with your friends.”
“N-not until tomorrow afternoon.”
“Big plans for Thanksgiving?”
“Mmm, not too big. The usual.”
“Angel, I know I asked before, but you could come with me to my uncle’s, you know. He and my aunt would love to meet you.”
And she’d love to meet them—in other circumstances. “It’s sweet of you, but it’s you they want to see and I can’t leave Eddie on his own, not with trouble being his middle name.” She forced herself to brighten. “Tell me about Thanksgiving at their house. Is it a big deal?”
A dimple appeared at the corner of his mouth. “It’s a shindig. The cooking is mostly done outside, even some of the baking. There’ll be turkey, deep fried, and Cajun rice simmering in a big iron cauldron. Plus the usual sausages and seafood, and my favorite—cornbread. I haven’t been in a couple of years, but my uncle and aunt always go all out, ever since, well, ever since my dad dropped me off one Thanksgiving eve and took off for parts unknown.”
The hurt in his voice raked her heart. “You said he’s called Crazy Jack, your dad.”
His made a scoffing sound, and his dark eyes flashed for an instant. “Yep, a fortune teller, and crazier than any Jack you ever knew.”
“You think he might show up this year?”
He looked startled and then shook his head. “Nah. He used to turn up like a bad penny every three or four years, but not lately. For all I know, he may be dead—or in jail somewhere.”
“Oh, Lucien.” She touched fingers to his forearm. “What if he’s sick or something? Have you thought about looking for him?”
I hope you enjoyed the snippet incorporating the word turkey. Thanks for stopping by. If you haven’t done so already, check out the other excerpts at Tuesday Tales.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Excellent use of the prompt, Flossie. What a different type of Thanksgiving feast. And you tugged at my heartstrings for Lucien.
It sure was different from what I’m used to. Thanks, Mae!
Great scene. Makes me wish I was going.
Thank you, Susanne. Your words made me remember a reading book I loved from grammar school. The title was If I Were Going. The children traveled to different countries.
I love the interaction between these two. I hope she goes with him. Why do I think they might launch an adventure together to find Crazy Jack? That would be awesome. Looking forward to where this is going. Great story!
Thank you! That would be quite an adventure– to look for Crazy Jack.
Wonderful snippet!
Thank you!
Crazy Jack, huh? I have a feeling we might see more of him!! Question of the day is do you like regular cornbread or sweet cornbread? I like both! Love fried turkey, too. This was great and made me hungry. Happy thanksgiving. Jillian
Hope your Thanksgiving was a great family time! I have never met a cornbread I didn’t like. I even like the cornmeal hushpuppies with tomatoes I remember from fish camps in childhood.
Ahhh. yes, hushpuppies are awesome!! Hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving as well.
Thank you! This is a wonderful time of year.
Agreed!! <3
Yum, I’d love to be invited to Lucian’s Thanksgiving, and I’m intrigued by Crazy Jack.
I wouldn’t like the seafood smell, but other than that it sounds tasty.
Oh, that made me hungry! I love their growing relationship. I wish she were going with him. Great job!
I know, it’s hard to read about food without salivating. Thank you!
That makes me so hungry! I love his back story and their growing relationship. Great job!
Oh, good, I’m glad the backstory part worked okay.
