Pluto has recently been discovered – by me. Pluto tv that is. After shedding Hulu, I found free apps such as Pluto, Roku, IMDB, and Tubi. Now my latest mania is Midsomer Murders. I even caught a young Sam Heughan (Jamie, Outlander) in an episode.
Tuesday Tales is up now, with authors writing excerpts based on word or picture prompts. This week’s word prompt is cream. My snippet is from a cozy mystery. Visit all the talented authors of Tuesday Tales.
An unexpected pang hit me at her words. Gage had always drawn women like a snake charmer, and I couldn’t picture him without a couple of fixated females in tow. But why had he downplayed his dealings with Kitty?
I assured Robin I’d call her as soon as I got home, which hopefully would be later today, and hung up just as Gage returned with hot coffee and scones. Cinnamon and orange aromas permeated the air. Ralph had finished his morning romp and joined us, his chin resting stoically on his front paws, his big brown eyes snapping back and forth from Gage to me, pleading for a bite.
I was crumb deep in morsels of hot buttery heaven. “Mmm, this is beyond delicious. Marcella’s Sweet Shop?”
“Where else?” He grinned and bit into a second orange scone filled with cream cheese. He finished all but the last chunk and lobbed it over to Ralph, who caught it midair. Gage ruffled his head.
The sedate sound of a high-end motor purred up the ridge. Gage stood and peered over the railing. “It’s Bonbon’s car. I wonder what’s up.”
I used the last of my coffee to wash down two otc pills for my throbbing ankle and the pesky headache that seemed to be intensifying.
Bonbon beamed as she entered, her dark red hair pinned in a sculpted updo. Seeing me sitting there, surprise flashed across her face, quickly masked. She refused refreshments but moved a chair so that her back was to the sun. Crossing her legs, she raised a well-arched brow. “I hope I haven’t interrupted–anything.”
I lifted my own brow, aware it probably looked pale and invisible, but Gage offered a swift response. “Peri was caught in the storm. Since the road was impassable, we came up.”
She peered at my bandaged ankle and made a tsking sound. “It was a frightful storm all right. We lost power for a day.”
“Not here, but phone service is still hit or miss.”
“That’s why I came. I’ve been trying to reach you to see if you could help Sam with the horses.”
Gage glanced my way.
I lifted a palm. “Don’t worry about me. I’ll be fine here until you get back.”
Bonbon offered sweetly. “I can take Peri back down the ridge. I’m sure the road has been cleared by now. After all, her sister is in a pretty pickle.”

Love the name Bonbon and your description of her, although that last comment makes her seem a bit like a jealous sour puss. Can’t wait to see why her sister’s in a pickle. Love that expression.
Thanks so much, Susanne– your support is awesome.
Bonbon is quite the name and seems quite the character!
I use Roku but have never heard of Pluto. I’m going to have to look that service up!
Thank you, Mae, for your ongoing supportive comments– so uplifting and appreciated. I get more amazed by Pluto every week, always finding a new plus to it. The latest is that the episodes of Midsomer Murders not only play in an ongoing live fashion but are available on demand!
I kind of want to slap BonBon. Her jealousy is so apparent. And I’m dying to know why her sister is in trouble. Great job!
Me, too, Tricia!
May I just say that BonBon is an amazing name! Loved the excerpt.
