Another gem of a book by vintage Australian romance author, Dorothy Cork, is Breakers on the Beach. Instead of an Outback setting as many of Cork’s books have, including the fabulous Red Diamond, Breakers on the Beach is set– well, on the beach, of course. Yet, Australia is home to numerous waterfront properties, and this one is along the southern coast near Burrangarra. It is a place crackling with danger for heroine Eden Dare, not only because of the insidious riptides, but primarily because of a sexy Alpha male named Sinclair Watermount, Sin for short.
Although Sin is forever warning her to be careful, in one scene Eden is pulled under and washes up on shore. Of course Sin feels responsible for her and coaxes a sip of brandy down her throat before tucking her into her warm and toasty bed.
The sexual and emotional tension between hero and heroine is a remarkable aspect of any Dorothy Cork novel, but the supporting personalities are equally engaging. In Breakers on the Beach, the main villainess is a precocious Lolita named Bibi Webster. Eden’s cold fish of a grandfather is another secondary character, and there are several others. Dorothy Cork writes antagonists in such a way that the reader dislikes them, while still wanting to see more of their antics and dig into what makes them tick.
One Torchy Tuesday per month, we’ll examine other Dorothy Cork romances. After all, they are on my shelf to enjoy!
Ooo, sounds like a winner. And I love when an author creates vibrant secondary characters whether good or bad. I’m not familiar with Dorothy Cork, but it sounds like I’ve been missing some good tales. And those names, Eden and Sin? Interesting combo indeed, LOL!
She’s vintage back from the 1980’s. I think she’s still alive though, and I have tried to find an address to send her an appreciation card. Yes, I think she had a jolly time selecting names!
