Are you a Wrimo? If not, why not? NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) is now underway. My goal with NaNoWriMo this year is to start and complete the rough drafts of at least two novellas, with a total of 50,000 words of course.
I decided to engage NaNo this year by means of sprinting. So far, I have sprinted each day around noon for 45 minutes and later in the afternoon or evening for 45 minutes. I write as fast as I can, without caution of spelling or punctuation. I’ve noticed two interesting facets of this strategy. First, it really revs up the energy level, and you get to know your characters and story faster than you would by sitting and thinking about them. It almost goes without saying that the words are as ugly as sin and many of them will go by the wayside. That’s okay. Editing will save us. Second, I had forgotten how much I enjoy sprinting. It really is fun.
I’d like to double the minimum daily word count needed (1667) on as many days as possible and have achieved that on the first three days. That will provide a cushion on the inevitable day when it’s difficult to make the word count or I must be doing something else. Also, the earlier I make 50,000 words and finish the rough draft of each novella, the sooner I can begin editing. At the end of day three, I’m at 11,194 words. Praying the momentum holds.
Best of luck to all wrimos!

That’s an interesting approach. I am looking forward to your ending debrief, see how it worked.
Thanks, Jacqui! Me, too.
