Mythic Monday: Chakra Gemstones by Flossie Benton Rogers

jade1crpdWhat’s your favorite gemstone? Mine is jade, especially the intense green varieties known as imperial and kingfisher jade. My mother surprised me with the ring on the right on my 16th birthday, and a few years ago my husband lovingly gave me the one on the left surrounded by tiny peridot and white topaz. With its green hue, jade is a useful stone to represent or perform healing or balancing work on the emotions or the heart chakra. Heaven knows we can all use that from time to time. I’m an optimist and resonate with the beauty and serenity of the world, but the world is also “more full of weeping than you can understand,” as Yeats said in The Stolen Child.

Let’s take a peek at other crystals and gemstones corresponding with the seven primary chakras. Secondary colors are associated with some.

CHAKRA       COLOR    STONE
Crown           Violet      Amethyst, quartz crystal
Third Eye      Indigo    Lapis Lazuli, sodalite
Throat           Blue       Sapphire, blue lace agate
Heart             Green     Jade, emerald, malachite, green tourmaline, rose quartz
Solar Plexus Yellow    Citrine, amber
Sacral             Orange  Carnelian, orange adventurine
Root               Red         Red jasper, garnet, ruby, onyx, obsidian

I love gemstone jewelry, especially jade, but also smoky topaz, butterscotch amber, lapis lazuli, and many others. My preferences lean toward opaque stones rather than brilliant transparent ones. What about you? Do you use crystals and stones for healing purposes? What rocks do you like to wear? Are you a diamond girl? Ruby? Emerald? What are your favorites?

Cheers & Happy Reading!

  1. Wow! What a beautiful display of gems! My favorite is Amethyst. I had a ring with one such gem; unfortunately, in sad circumstances, it was stolen. I heard that the different gemstones have healing powers but never studied this aspect. (There are so many things to be learned in such a short life on earth!)

    1. Amethyst is beautiful, Carmen. It was my sister’s favorite. I have a couple of amethyst rings, nothing spectacular, but I enjoy them very much. How true about the short time we have here on earth– there are just too many fascinating things to learn!

  2. I love–er, am addicted to–gemstones! I tend more toward the transparent than the opaque, with amethyst being my favorite. When it comes to gemstone jewelry I have quite a collection, though surprisingly, I’m not a big fan of diamonds. Onyx is my favorite opaque stone. I probably have more of that than any other stone, though just about any is a magnet for me, LOL!

    1. Ooh, I bet you have some pretty pieces, Mae. I don’t care for diamonds either, and I also have some onyx, though not as many as you. Amethyst is beautiful. It holds a special place in my heart, as it was my sister’s favorite.

  3. As a Virgo, my birthstone is the blue sapphire. Blue brings joy, peace and beauty. It can also bring fulfillment of dreams, give mental clarity and creativity. I cherish my blue sapphire. I need all the help I can get.

  4. My passion is amber. I wear some of it in one form or another everyday. It helps with all kinds of problems and is a good stone for spiritual development. I have a big collection of tumble stones of many sorts, if charged the right way they can help with things. I gave my niece a big lump of rose quartz during her first pregnancy. I always give my boy some malachite to take with him when he goes climbing. Small things but they seem to make a difference.
