INCENSE

Do you enjoy using aromatherapy in any of its forms—such as incense, candles, or room fresheners? I like all of them and have loved burning incense since the heyday of Nehru jackets and sitars. My husband always kept us well stocked with quality incense, and some of the temple blends, such as Song of India and Naq Champa are exquisite. Today I share five of my favorite single element incense choices. Feeling down? These will enliven your spirits.

Wisteria – Wisteria is my favorite incense, reminding me of the little cones I burned in my Buddha incense burner as a teenager. Wisteria is said to be a good scent to use for home protection.
Violet – Violet is the fragrance I love best in perfume. A good quality violet incense can brush away the shadows from a room and help you slip into a restful night’s sleep filled with healing dreams.
Lily of the Valley – Lily of the Valley attracts love, feminine nurturing, and all around good fortune. It is affiliated with the moon and the ancient goddesses of love.
Jasmine – Jasmine attracts good fortune. It is often used to encourage a healthy attitude toward money, as well as a bountiful influx of it.
Frankincense and Myrrh – Although each is a single element, together they are magical. Called the most charmed of incense, this combination is said to purify the will, enhance spiritual pursuits, and elevate one’s purpose above the madding crowd. Frankincense and myrrh can each be used alone as well.

What scents are your favorites?

Men, including romantic heroes, often have a masculine fragrance unique to the individual. That of the hero of Guardian of the Deep, Samael, is coriander, a complex and mysterious scent used in the perfumes of ancient times.GuardianoftheDeep_SM (1)

  1. Ah, I fondly remember the days of burning incense. My favorites were jasmine, patchouli and sandalwood. Sadly, as I got older most scents clashed with newly discovered allergies, but I have such fond memories of those scents twined with black lights and black light posters. Pure magic!

    1. Ah yes, sandalwood– a very nice one, Mae. I am sorry about the allergies and am glad you have the fond memories floating around in your mind. Love black lights! I have a blue bulb on my front patio right now that makes me think of a black light.

  2. Ahhhh! Great post! My favorites are Nag Champa and Frankincense. I’ve never tried Frankincense & Myrrh. I’ll have to try that one too!

  3. We use incense and room fresheners. My most favorite, and it’s difficult to make a top as I like many, are Sandalwood, Orchids and, Lily of the Valley. sometimes I burn incense while writing and I feel more inspired.
Thank you for the post! Will have to bookmark it.

  4. I enjoy incense and use it often. I have a new favourite called Fairy Dust that is beautiful. My all time favourite is White Rose. I use that a lot too. I love the idea of a character having a signature fragrance. Lovely evocative post.
