I’m so excited to be a guest today on Flossie Benton Rogers’ blog. I’m a big fan of her books and of the paranormal romance genre. That’s why I’m thrilled to contribute to an amazing anthology releasing in September called A Darker Shade of Evil. It’s a collection of urban fantasy and paranormal romances by award-winning, USA Today and International best-selling authors. All the books feature encounters with demons or the devil (or both). The books are complete with no cliff hangers and there is a Happily Ever After. Heat levels range from spicy to erotic. Here is the gorgeous cover:
My story for the collection is Siren Descending. As soon as I heard that the anthology would feature encounters with demons or the devil, I had the idea for this book and knew I had to write it.
I have been fascinated by Greek mythology since I was a little girl when my grandmother gave me my first book of myths and legends. I became so obsessed, I made my younger brother and sister act out plays based on the myths—with me as the heroine, of course.
Of all the Greek myths, I always thought the story of Orpheus and Eurydice was one of the saddest. Do you remember it? When Eurydice dies, Orpheus follows her to hell and tries to bring her back. He almost succeeds but when he makes a fatal mistake just before they reach the surface, she is lost to him forever. It’s a cautionary tale about losing faith. It also illustrates how flawed humans are, even though we are capable of great love. I always wanted a different ending for this tragedy and so I wrote my own contemporary version. I had a great time writing this book and hope you enjoy reading it.
Here’s the cover, designed by the uber-talented cover artist, Dawne´ Dominique.
In Siren Descending, Athenia, a mermaid/sea witch, battles to save her soul and her lover.
As repayment for betraying a mage, Athenia signs on as his apprentice. While she is with him, she vows to earn his trust and rekindle their relationship. However, though he teaches her some control of the elements, he denies her true power and keeps her at arm’s length. Rejected and isolated, she withdraws further into herself. When she’s courted by a mysterious and mesmerizing stranger, she’s frightened but drawn to him. She’s tempted to give in to his demands, but the price may be too high.
When Athenia refuses the stranger’s advances, he abducts the one person Athenia needs the most, the mage. She must follow them to the depths of hell and fight for the man she cannot live without.
If you like Greek mythology, you’ll love this contemporary retelling of the story of Orpheus who followed his wife to the underworld in a tragic effort to save her life. Can Athenia succeed where Orpheus failed? Read Siren Descending for the answer.
Siren Descending will be available for preorder May 31 as part of the anthology, A Darker Shade of Evil.
Thank you for hosting me here today, Flossie Benton Rogers. It was great fun as always.
