Carrying over yesterday’s western theme, let’s mosey on over to an Old West saloon and join the cowboys and old timers in Dodge City and Deadwood. The harsh conditions of the frontier did not permit many fripperies. There were no mint sprigs or pitchers of freshly squeezed fruit juice. Saloon goers slugged down warm beer or whiskey, 100 proof rotgut often diluted by the bartender with water, turpentine, or less palatable ingredients. However, one tasty “cocktail” of the Old West involved adding blackberry liqueur to the whiskey. The Muleskinner actually sounds pretty tasty, doesn’t it? Bottoms up, hombre!
Ingredients: Equal parts whiskey and blackberry liqueur
Directions: Pour into a glass and drink straight up, or if your saloon is fortunate enough to actually have ice, on the rocks.
It definitely sounds a lot better than warm beer and rotgut *shudder* Those guys must have had iron stomachs, LOL!
Yes, they must have, with rotgut, cold beans, and days in the saddle. I have a friend who writes westerns, and a cowboy’s trials and tribulations make for great drama.
