A special phobia list to celebrate Friday the 13th! A phobia is defined as an irrational fear. You have probably heard of the first one on the list. What about the rest?
Triskaidekaphobia- Fear of the number 13
Selenophobia – Fear of the moon
Pteronophobia – Fear of being tickled by feathers
Stygiophobia or Hadephobia – Fear of hell
Ouranophobia – Fear of heaven
Ranidaphobia – Fear of frogs
Porphyrophobia- Fear of the color purple
Hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia- Fear of the number 666
Taphophobia – Fear of being buried alive or of cemeteries
Geniophobia – Fear of chins
Deipnophobia – Fear of dining or dinner conversations
Lachanophobia – Fear of vegetables
Aulophobia – Fear of flutes
I don’t like round sucker-like holes such as an octopus has. Which irrational fears do you have?
Cheers & Happy Reading!

Interesting to know. The list includes loooots of fears. Around here, instead of Friday 13th people fear Tuesday 13th. I have no idea if it has a specific name.
As my own fears i have one that is listed – Snakephobia- Fear of snakes. (Ophidiophobia) and one that I couldn’t find on the list – fear of storms/tempest. When one starts my blood pressure rises and I start to tremble. It was triggered by an event years ago and can’t get rid of it.
Thank you for this post! Hope the day will be a good one for you even if it’s Friday 13th!
How interesting it’s Tuesday the 13th in your country. I can understand both of your fears, Carmen, especially after you had such a bad storm event in your past. We all have something that gives us the shakes. Have a lovely weekend:)
What a cool post. I have a blogger friend who suffers from Ranidaphobia (Fear of Frogs) to the extreme and even blogs about it. Her frog posts are always so entertaining….perhaps because I love frogs, LOL. I’m also not bothered by snakes, although I have an irrational fear of encountering a bear in the woods. I can’t imagine anyone having Ouranophobia (Fear of Heaven), and Lachanophobia (Fear of Vegetables) made me laugh. Happy Friday the 13th, Flossie!
I laughed at the fear of vegetables and fear of flutes, Mae. How funny that you love frogs. I have a childhood friend who collects little frog ornaments. Now that I think of it, my son’t elementary school team was the Bullfrogs:) A bear in the woods…when did that fear start? Did you read a story with a scene like that in it as a child?
I have two phobia: acrophobia–an abnormal fear of heights. My body seems to turn to mush and I feel as if I’m falling. I also suffer from ophidrophobia–a fear of snakes; all kinds of snakes.
Loretta, I thought of you as I was watching a video of Norway where cars were going up a mountain across a narrow bridge. Over the side to the gushing waters below looked miles down–eek.
Some one would have to drive me because I’d be hunkering down in the floorboard with my eyes closed. Yikes!
I know, and we would miss all that gorgeous scenery in the ravine faaaaaaaaar down below.
Fabulous list there, Flossie. All manner of scariness. My big phobia is spiders. Can’t stand them. I freeze, if they are really big I can’t even look at them for more than a glance. If they move I usually scream and run.
Big hairy spiders give me the creeps too, Daisy. I don’t dislike them as much if they aren’t covered with hair. Can you believe that when I was three my big sister took me to see a horror movie with a giant spider? You would have liked that one–not!
I’m mostly fearless. Except my dislike for phones was notched up to a fear today. I picked up the phone, annoyed it had interrupted my writing thoughts. A creepy cheery female robot voice said ‘goodbye’ and then hung up.
So should what’s the phobia for creepy female robots threatening to kill me?
Oh, Liza, that’s truly creepy. I keep the sound off on my pc so that I don’t have to hear any bells and whistles and turn it on only when I especially want to hear something. In the middle of work, though, a metallic voice will come on and say “your avast database has been updated.” It creeps me out every time.
Fear of going unDer water. Seriously since I was three, thanks to my mother.
Oh gosh, that’s a bad one, Ronnie. Eek.
