This week I’m over the moon at the one year anniversary of my novel Mind Your Goddess, set in the Roaring 20’s.  Yesterday also happens to be my birthday. Time to celebrate and paint the town! So get dolled up in your flapper attire, put on some quick stepping jazz, and let’s revisit the age of hair bobs and speakeasies. The cocktail and cookie recipes below are based on authentic concoctions of the era. It’s the bee’s knees (slang for exceptionally wonderful)!

BEE’S KNEES COCKTAIL

Ingredients: 2 ounces gin, ¾ ounce honey syrup (mix ½ ounce honey with ½ ounce water), ½ ounce lemon juice.

Directions: In cocktail shaker, shake vigorously and pour into chilled cocktail glass.

PUCKER UP COOKIES FlapperFBR

Ingredients: 1 package lemon cake mix, ½ cup vegetable oil, 2 eggs, 1 teaspoon lemon extract, 1/3 cup powdered sugar for dusting.

Directions: In large bowl beat cake mix, oil, eggs and extract. Pour powdered sugar into a separate bowl, drop a teaspoon of dough at a time into the sugar to be dusted, and then place each cookie on ungreased baking sheet 3 inches apart. Bake 7-8 minutes in preheated 375 degree oven. Recipe makes about 3 dozen cookies.

Add trays of roasted nuts and deviled eggs to the menu, and your party guests will think you’re the cat’s pajamas (means same as bee’s knees).

MIND YOUR GODDESS – WYTCHFAE 3

Cool jazz and hot kisses…

The Goddess Epona awakens in the Roaring 20’s. Can this flapper summon the razzle dazzle to reclaim her powers and the heart of her dark Guardian?

Excerpt:
The moon hung round and golden on the western horizon. Rustling branches along its way, a slight breeze stirred the pre-dawn air. Dark shapes emerged as roses and hedgerows. Epona shivered and rubbed her bare arms.
Warmth returned as Eshigel enfolded her in his embrace. The silk of his eye patch brushed against her cheek. “Our night together disappeared like a hell phantom. Stay here with me, Goddess.”
The low timbre of his voice slid as rough velvet over her skin. When he nuzzled her throat, a delicate tremble rippled her body. “Darling, I’d like nothing better, if you hadn’t made me promise to send you home at dawn.”
“I don’t want to go.”
“I don’t want you to.”

Now tell me, what era would you choose to visit if you could go back in time?

  1. Happy Birthday to YOU,
    Happy Birthday to YOU,
    Happy Birthday, dear Flossie,
    Happy Birthday to Youuuuu!
    And to Epona too!

I’d like to live during Celtic times when women were equal to men.

    1. My goodness, you have a lovely voice, Carmen. Thank you for the birthday song. I would love to visit the Celtic times you’re talking about. Have you read the Sister Fidelma books set in those times?

      1. I’m ashamed to admit I haven’t though I have a large number of them. Will do it one day. Thanks for the suggestion!

        1. I think I only own one of the Sister Fidelma books, but I read most of them when I was at the library. I would love to own them all. They are the type of books I like to hold in my hand, although it would make more sense to have them on the ebook reader, wouldn’t it?

  2. Congratulations, Flossie! A belated Happy, Happy Birthday and a huge congrats on the one year anniversary of MIND YOUR GODDESS. I loved taking a trip back to the Roaring 20s with your novel and Epona.

I’m intrigued by many of history, including the Jazz Age, but I think if I could choose to live in any, I would pick the Victorian Age or the Regency Era. I love the romance of both! 🙂

    BTW, lovely photo!!
