Tuesday Tales 2023-6-13 Picture Flowers

It’s time for Tuesday Tales, June 13, 2023, where we use word and picture prompts in the stories we’re writing. My WIP is a cozy mystery. This week’s picture prompt is flowers. Peri has returned to her former childhood home in Glisten, Georgia. When you finish reading my snippet, make sure to visit all the talented authors of Tuesday Tales.

Dovie’s phone dinged, and she swooped it up for an urgent glance.

“Is it the hospital?”

She shook her head. “It’s Naomi Upshaw. She and some of the other members of the Fall Festival committee are downstairs wanting to see me. They had persuaded Jack to support the festival, and the tearoom was to be one of the stops on the Pumpkin Run.”

“The Pumpkin Run.” I smiled, remembering. “My friends and I always loved it. How exciting for Tea Thyme to participate.”

“Do you know Naomi Upshaw?”

I considered. “I know of her. She’s a fixture in Glisten, isn’t she?”

“Yes. Head of the Heritage League and involved in many community activities. Would you come downstairs with me, Peri? I’ll introduce you to her and the others.” An apologetic expression crossed her face. “Dealing with the committee is one of the things needing to be handled while Jack is sick.”

“Of course.” I smoothed my hair back and followed her downstairs.

Luella stood at the bottom. “I put Vance Barlow and the harpies in the tearoom,” she stated, not bothering to whisper.

Five ladies and a gentleman awaited us, all dressed in what some referred to as “go to town clothes.” They rose when we entered. The woman in front held a gift basket. A lovely array of autumnal flowers was decoratively fastened to the handle. I recognized the woman as Naomi Upshaw.

She stepped forward, offering the basket to Dovie. “We were devastated to hear about Jack.” Although her voice sounded firm, she managed to convey appropriate concern. “My committee and I knew you would have plenty of refreshments here, with Jack’s cousin always baking, but we thought you might appreciate this aromatherapy set from Scent Oasis.”

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoyed the snippet inspired by flowers. If you haven’t done so already, check out the other excerpts at Tuesday Tales.

Cheers & Happy Reading!

  1. I’m mixed on Luella. I kind of love the way she announced the sudden guests. Great use of the picture prompt! Great job!
