Welcome to Tuesday Tales, where authors write weekly excerpts based on word and picture prompts. The word prompt this week is branch. The excerpt is from Silver’s Angel, a Paranormal Fantasy Romance in the Wytchfae Series. When you finish reading it, make sure to visit all the talented authors of Tuesday Tales.
Photographers and some public converged on them halfway down the skywalk that led from the hotel to the nightclub. One of the bodyguards, Chuck, moved ahead to clear the way, and the crowd surged backwards. Hugo released her arm, nodding for her to go. “I’ll be behind. Go get ‘em. Give me the sign to step in if you draw a blank.” He motioned for Elise and the second bodyguard, Zito, hovering behind Angel, to be at the ready.
It was like being on a catwalk, second nature to her by now. She put on her fierce Angel persona and glided into the lion’s den.
The hectic questions and comments were courteous for the most part and along the lines of, “Looking gorge tonight, Angel!” and “Silver brought you home from Bali, eh, Angel?” Keeping her eyelids languid, she tilted her head and lifted the corners of her mouth for the shots.
As she reached the end of the skywalk, someone called out, “Whose dress are you wearing?”
“Bebe Branch.” She swirled around and held up a tiny evening bag with the trademark honeybee. “Isn’t she marvelous?”
“Is Silver a particular favorite of yours?” someone shouted from the rows of clicks.
“Of course. They’re fabulous. I’m looking forward to the music.”
Some comments were intrusive or inconsequential and warranted a polite brush off.
Someone else inquired, “Have you met any of the band before?”
She ignored it and continued walking.
By that time Hugo had reached her at the end of the skywalk, and the questions turned to the topic of Silver’s resurgence. Hugo regaled them with facts, sales data, and plans for a world tour.
“They’ve been known to duck out before. Will they show up tonight, do you think? Angel, are you here for nothing?” insisted one snide reporter.
Hugo waved an impatient hand. “Give us a break, okay? Silver is hotter and better than they’ve ever been, and Angel is here to relax, not be bombarded.”
“With the Waring Agency’s focus on models, what made you interested in a rock band, Mr. Waring?”
“Lucien Silver’s genius, and that of his band, pure and simple. Musical talent has always been a part of Waring Agency’s agenda.” As they approached the glitzy lights of the rounded archway, he waved a dismissive hand. “Thank you for your interest. Enjoy the show!”
Angel held her focused persona as they entered the nightclub, led to the table of honor. The room had a Vegas feel. Lights flashed. The music thrummed through her veins.
