Tuesday Tales 2022-10-18 Picture Horses

Welcome to Tuesday Tales, where authors write weekly excerpts incorporating word and picture prompts. The inspiring picture this week is horses. The excerpt is from Silver’s Angel, a paranormal romance in the Wytchfae Series. When you finish reading my snippet, make sure to visit all the talented authors of Tuesday Tales.

After breakfast they saddled up and headed toward Splendor Ridge, Cooley on his prize chestnut, Goldfinger, and Lucien on the plucky bay, Huckleberry Tart. In their saddlebags were water, hard cheese, and the jerky Vaneta had made earlier in the week. If Lucien knew Uncle Cooley, he had a flask hidden somewhere for possible snakebite or other emergencies. A .22 hung to a special attachment. They were both in a thoughtful mood, with Lucien flying out tomorrow.

He surveyed the sky. It seemed to him a blue caress, hugging soft on the stark red rocks. He couldn’t wait to paint the picture in a song. “This has been a perfect week, Uncle. Thanks again for not chewing my head off for taking so long.”

“I knew you’d be back in your own good time. Just make it quicker from here on out. I’m no spring chicken anymore.”

“You’re sprier than most men your age.”

“That I am, and more bowlegged, too.”

They laughed, and Lucien cleared his throat. “I was thinking about coming back for Thanksgiving.”

“Do it, boy. Vaneta will be in hog heaven.”

“Angel would enjoy it out here. She likes nature and riding, and she would love both of you.”

Cooley’s eyes twinkled. “That would make our year, son, meeting the good woman that’s turned your life upside down.”

“Yeah, if she’s talking to me by then.”

“She can’t talk to you over the ethers, son. Call her.”

“I will. I’ve got to find out where she is first. I know you think I was a mess when I showed up here, but hell, I was worse before. She helped me see some things. I had been stuck on not living up to the family name.”

“Your magic has always been about music. It’s your gift. Treat it like one.”

“I know. I’ve been a damn blockhead.”

“I won’t argue with that one.”

I hope you enjoyed the snippet incorporating the picture prompt horses. Thanks for stopping by. Check out the other excerpts at Tuesday Tales.

Cheers & Happy Reading!

  1. Love the banter between these two men. And your description about the blue sky hugging the mountains. Looking forward to him bringing Angel there. Great story!

  2. I love the description of the scene and their conversation. It explains a great deal of the backstory. Great job!
