On the ever turning Wheel of the Year, today marks the halfway point between Winter Solstice and the onset of spring. The sun grows stronger, as the light outwits the darkness. The holy day is celebrated under various names, including Imbolc, St. Brigid’s Day, and Candlemas. In Gaelic cultures Imbolc is one of the cross-quarter festival days, along with Beltane, Lughnasadh and Samhain. In olden times food and offerings were made to the goddess Brighid or Brigid, and later to Saint Brigid. Travelers journeyed to her holy wells to receive healing and restoration.

With spring on its way, the world brightens with hope and optimism, and the heart opens to new beginnings. It is a time for realigning oneself appropriately and for reaffirming one’s intentions for the current cycle. We ask ourselves what few things are most important to us during this time. We look at what we want to focus on and achieve. Whatever we do today creates our life tomorrow. What does tomorrow look like in our best mind’s eye? What do we want it to look like? This is a time for introspection and for thankfulness of all we have. In the hectic busy hours of daily tasks and commitments, let’s touch upon the soul of the ancients who honored the gentle healer, Brigid. What are you grateful for today? I am thankful for my family, friends, my fur fae Marigold and all those past fur angels, my writing, others’ writing, and all the joy, colorful beauty, and glorious words of creation. I am thankful for the community of readers and writers who strive to understand and share the mysteries and beauty of the world.

Cheers & Happy Writing!
